Grandmother
October 2019
Grandmother
Gets up and shuffles
to the window every morning.
Pulls the shade up and looks out.
On usual days she will see
one
lone
dove sitting on the telephone wire.
Grandmother says,
There were once two, this dove has lost her love.
Sometimes there really are two or three doves, but she only ever sees one.

On unusual days she will see a flamingo.
Slowly walking long gangly strides
across the driveway.
Grandmother fetches her camera only to see the error message "memory exhausted"

The heron will fly away before anyone else is around to witness her morning flamingo.
